Thursday 30 April 2026 - Statement attributed to AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson:

Today's State of the Housing System report from the National Housing Supply and Affordability Council is a welcome and important contribution - and it confirms what 18,000 Australians have been telling AMPLIFY: the housing system is in crisis and now is the time for bold action.

We know the housing crisis is not confined to the margins. The supply crisis is felt in every corner of the country and will only be compounded by disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict. Millions of people with decent jobs, steady incomes and every expectation of a fair go are being shut out of the housing market or ground down by ever rising rents. And for the most vulnerable, we’re failing to provide the social and affordable housing they need. Australians are ready for change.

AMPLIFY welcomes the Council's call for reforms across tax settings, planning, construction productivity, investment in social housing, and renter protections. This mirrors AMPLIFY’s evidence-backed housing platform – Solving Australia’s housing crisis: a promise broken, a plan to rebuild it – shaped by the biggest ever community engagement on housing ever conducted in Australia.

On one point we go further than the Council: Australians are ready for bolder action than governments have so far been willing to take. Our research shows that when people are given the facts, support for bold reform reaches as high as 94 per cent. The evidence is now overwhelming - from the Council, from experts, and from the community itself. The solutions exist. The community mandate exists. What's missing is the political will to act.
