AMPLIFY welcomes the Economic Reform Roundtable’s focus on addressing the housing crisis and the Treasurer’s comments on the need to do more to increase the uptake of modular and prefab housing.“We know the Australian public supports an increase in modern housing construction to address our housing crisis, and we welcome any move by the Federal Government to boost modular and prefab housing for the community,” AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson said.“Australia is behind other countries in terms of its use of modern construction and prefabricated housing, and we believe there is a major opportunity here to address the housing crisis and give Australians a fair go at housing.”At AMPLIFY's housing deliberation earlier this year, 96 per cent of participants backed the expansion of prefab housing. More widely, an AMPLIFY YouGov poll showed 70 per cent of Australians supported expanding the use of prefab housing.

AMPLIFY is calling on the Victorian Government to unlock the potential of modern prefab housing, a bold housing reform that would boost the state’s flagging housing supply.AMPLIFY says Victoria’s housing regulations have not kept pace with new ways of building, like prefab and modular housing, with the system built around slower traditional onsite methods.In a submission to the Victorian Government’s consultation on enabling modern methods of construction, AMPLIFY highlighted three key actions to boost uptake and help scale the market. AMPLIFY has welcomed the South Australian Government’s commitment to build 120 new prefab homes as a big step in the right direction in addressing the housing crisis.The announcement was made ahead of a roundtable today between AMPLIFY, industry leaders, community members and South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and Housing Minister Nick Champion.“We’re in a national housing crisis and the community is demanding bigger, bolder action from governments. Prefab has a key role to play if we are to address the urgent need for more homes, sooner,” said AMPLIFY Chair and Founder, Paul Bassat.‍

Australians want bigger and bolder action on housing, with new polling revealing it is a top policy priority for the nation.The AMPLIFY poll, completed by YouGov, found 24 per cent of Australians ranked housing as the number one policy area they want the Federal Government to take big and bold steps to address.AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson said the poll results reflected the urgent need for innovative and progressive policy following decades of stagnation.“It’s unsurprising to see Aussies want bigger and bolder action on housing. AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson is calling on the re-elected Labor Government to restore trust in politicians by bringing forward ambitious policies to tackle the pressing problems our nation faces.A recent AMPLIFY survey, conducted by YouGov, found Australians believe politicians were more focused on winning votes than solving challenges during the election. The survey found 72 per cent of respondents believed politicians were mostly focused on winning votes. Only 5 per cent believed politicians were mostly focused on solving challenges. ‍

As Australians prepare to cast their votes in tomorrow’s federal election, new polling from AMPLIFY shows the vast majority of Australians are pessimistic about the nation’s housing outlook.A national poll commissioned by AMPLIFY and conducted by YouGov has found 71 per cent of Australians do not believe any real progress will be made on the housing crisis in the next year.
