Countries around the world are turning to new approaches to bring together community members and governments to discuss and make the decisions that affect their lives.
This is formally known as a 'deliberation'. Countries like Ireland, France, Belgium, Japan and Taiwan have used these approaches to tackle everything from end-of-life care to digital laws.
And it works. We know that.
Not just deliberation, AMPLIFICATION.
AMPLIFICATION is a unique process by which Australian’s can make our collective voice louder and stronger. This includes deliberation techniques and tools, but also incorporates innovative formats and processes to help our community find solutions for the biggest challenges we face.
Together we will:
🔍 Seek out all sides of every issue
🎁 Share different points of view amongst each other
🧩 Solve problems by working together
⚡️ Spark change to make an impact
AMPLIFY is convening Australia’s first National Housing AMPLIFICATION that will find uncommon ground on housing reform. Reform that will help Australians get a fair go at housing affordability, housing security and housing choice.
The process will deliver a quantified and prioritised level of support from a broadly representative group of Australians for housing reforms that best respond to the question: How can Australians get a fair go at housing now and in the future? AMPLIFY is driven by evidence and impact so the AMPLIFICATION is focussed on evidence-based solutions that can provide a blueprint for action and immediately advocated for with relevant decision-makers and leaders.
What's the process?
The national housing AMPLIFICATION innovates on a method maintained by Stanford University known as Deliberative Polling, which involves a representative microcosm of the population being polled before and after information and debate, to show how opinion shifts.
SEEK. AMPLIFY’s process began with seeking top housing reforms from renowned housing experts, respected think tanks and industry across six impactful reform areas.
SHARE. In November 2024, housing reforms were shared with 10 'Community Heroes', nationally recognised community-minded individuals committed to the public good and representing each State and Territory. They met in Sydney and deliberated with the support of independent experts, weighing the trade-offs and reaching consensus on the strongest reforms. See the shortlisted housing reforms and an update on the AMPLIFICATION here.
SOLVE. In February 2025, 100 broadly representative Australians will meet in person in Sydney for Australia’s first national housing deliberation. The level of support for housing reforms will be tested before and after the opportunity to learn from housing experts and discuss deeply with people who hold very different views.
SPARK. The position reached by the community will be shared widely and the community will be supported by AMPLIFY to advocate for change.
How do I get involved?
Australians from all walks of life are invited to register their interest for the chance to become participants for the in-depth deliberation in February 2025:
Or join the conversation on AMPLIFY's online platform here, which will feed into both deliberations.
